Grace for the Table

Table Graces

Short liturgies for the 12pm and 5pm meals — to break bread with remembrance and gratitude.

“They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts.”

Acts 2:46

Daily Prayers for The Table

A Grace Before the Midday Meal

For the 12pm hour

Father of every good gift, we pause at this table to thank You. You have given us our daily bread, and our hands are full because of Your mercy.

Bless this food to our bodies, and our bodies to Your service. Make this meal a foretaste of the table You are preparing — where every tear is wiped away and every hunger is satisfied.

In the name of Christ, the Bread of Life. Amen.

A Grace Before the Evening Table

For the 5pm hour

Lord, as the day draws to its close, we gather at this altar of daily bread. We remember that every table is holy when You are remembered here.

Set aside our phones and our hurry. Make us present to one another and to You. Let this bread and this cup call to mind the body broken and the blood poured out for us.

In the name of Jesus, who is our host and our meal. Amen.

A Family Grace

For the household table

Faithful God, thank You for the faces around this table. Thank You for the labor that brought this food, and the hands that prepared it.

Make this home a little church — devoted to teaching, to breaking bread, to fellowship, and to prayer. Feed our bodies here, and feed our souls with Your presence.

In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

A Quiet Grace for One

When you eat alone

Lord, though I sit alone at this table, I am not alone — You are here, and the whole company of heaven surrounds me.

Bless this meal. Let the quiet of this hour be fellowship with You, and let the bread remind me that Christ is enough.

Amen.

A Grace of Remembrance

Breaking bread in remembrance

We remember You, Lord Jesus, at this table. You took bread, gave thanks, broke it, and said, 'This is My body, given for you.'

As often as we eat this bread, we proclaim Your death until You come. Make this ordinary meal a remembrance of Your love, and a foretaste of the wedding supper of the Lamb.

Come, Lord Jesus. Amen.

Seal the prayer

Amen

Ending a prayer with "amen" is an active seal — confirming that we believe the prayer is true and surrender to God's will.
